The Uncommonly Words Used in Ilonggo or Hiligaynon

1.sambat – Spanish-derived word for the kitchen utensil “fork”
This is the preferred word used by Filipinos today.

Ex:Lihog ko bi kuha sang sambat sa lamesa.

Transalate:Can you please get the fork on the table.

2.sipnayan – The science that deals with concepts such as quantity, structure, space and change.

Ex:Indi budlay tun-an ang sipnayan kung gapamati ka lang sa tudlo sang imo maistra or maistro.

Translate:It is not hard to study math if your gonna listen to your teacher.

3.kanunsilyo – boxer shorts are type of undergarment typically worn by men.

Ex:Nagsuksok si Paul bag-o nga kanunsilyo.

Translate:Paul wear his new pair of shorts.

4.sulatroniko – it is a messages distributed by electronic means from one computer user to one or more recepients via network.

Ex:Napadala ko na ang sulat kay Glenn

Translate:I already send the email to Glenn

Ex:Nag-usar siya labaha sa sulod cr para pang ahit sa iya bigote.

Translate:He use razor in the cr to shave his mustache.

6.isalat – the practice of magic, especially black magic; the use of spells and the invocation of spirits.

Ex:Nagkadto si Donna sa isalat para ipakulam si Bidak kag si Warak.

Translate:Donna go to the witchcraft to use blackmagic to Bidak and Warakmercury-liquid-500x500 (1).jpg                                                                                       7.asoge – the element mercury, also known in English as quicksilver.

Ex: Ang asoge ginagamit sa mga termometro

Translate: Mercury use in thermometer

8.pulot-gata – it is the traditional holiday taken by newly weds to celebrate their marriage in intimacy and seclusion

Ex:Pagkatpos nila kasal nagkadto sila sa Paris para sa ila pulot-gata.

Translate:After their wedding they go to Paris for their honeymoon.

9.layaw – freedom enjoy by a child

Ex:Si Junjun nalipay gid kay gin pasugtan siya maglayaw sang iya ginikanan.

Translate:Junjun was happy because he got permission to his parents to pampered.

balinghoy                                                                                           10.balinghoy – Balinghoy is the native Tagalog word for cassava, which now is more commonly known as kamoteng kahoy (“tree kamote”).

Ex:Nagbakal si Kim balinghoy kag gin balon niya sa eskwelahan.

Translate:Kim buy a cassava and bring it as a snack in school.
